Šibenik
offers an ideal stop, if you are looking for somewhere quiet with a
beach, and the mazy medieval centre is good for idle wandering and
the cathedral is one of the finest architectural monuments on the
coast.
As a
transport hub, Šibenik isn’t as important as Zadar or
Split, but there are ferries to a handful of offshore
islands, and buses inland to the waterfalls of the Krka National
Park and the medieval castle at Knin.
The small
resort town of Vodice, is unaccountably, central Dalmatia’s
most successful package-holiday destination. Taxi boats will take
you to the offshore islets of Logorun and Tijat. You
can also use the twice-daily Vodice-Šibenik ferry to visit the
relatively quiet islands of Prvić and Zlarin, and
there are local excursions to the Krk falls and the Kornati
archipelago.
