NO CHOICE!!!
A TOTAL TRANSFORMATION OF BUILDING CONCEPTS TO ALIGN WITH CLIMATE CHANGE AND INCREASINGLY CATASTROPHIC FLOODS
HOMES BUILT ON STILTS HAVE EXISTED
FOR CENTURIES, BUT OUR PROJECT OFFERS:
APARTMENTS / HOUSES ON STILTS – UP TO 2 m OF CLEARANCE FOR FLOOD WATERS.
This concept was initially aimed at developing countries, which suffer from increasing disasters linked to climatic change.
In recent years, we have seen and suffered dramatic flooding on our own doorstep.Repeated flooding in some regions is a stressful and expensive experience and many insurers are now looking at excluding areas from flood damage.
On top of the worry, the delays with repairs, often having to move out of a home for weeks or months, there is the added blow of the devaluation of the property.
After two, three or sometimes four heavy floods, property is unsaleable.
The MOSES solution: instead of abandoning thousands of hectares of built land, with existing infrastructure, services and facilities, the alternative is to radically change the way we build and live in these areas.
This means demolishing large numbers of existing buildings, liberating the ground area to absorb rainwater and, in some cases, offer the new accommodation to other people.
Example: build retirement villages with special facilities for easy access, medical supervision, etc…
INDIVIDUAL HOUSE
ALL NEWBUILD IN POTENTIAL FLOOD RISK ZONES MUST BE BUILT ON THE MOSES CONCEPT.
2 metre high free flow zone on ground level of ALL buildings. No concrete.
YES, major changes, but the building experts have been telling us for years that we must change methods or die! (Mark Farmer 2016).
We are not trying to re-invent the wheel, properties on stilts exist around the World, including close to us in Southern France at Gruissan.
